Polysaccharide-based nanoparticles are suitable drug carriers, which can be widely modified in terms of structures and properties. Since protein acetylation significantly affects regulation of the immune system, deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) could be useful for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and life-threatening syndromes induced by infections, such as sepsis or hemolytic-uremic syndrome. We developed biocompatible and functional polysaccharide-based drug-loaded nanoparticles, which will be further modified to achieve tissue-specificity for anti-inflammatory and tissue protective compounds suitable for clinical translation in inflammatory diseases.
